Darius Shu directs a vibrant promo for rising pop star Jason Kwan, reflecting the mood of excitement in his track Deja Vu.In the song Kwan captures the adventures of his first loves, queer awakenings, and secret summer romances, at a time in his life where his sexuality had to be hidden and explored only in the late nights and early mornings of Hong Kong. The video reflects that feeling, paying homage in its cinematography to the work of Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai and his Australian DoP Christopher Doyle. Taking on both the director and DoP roles, Shu's eye for composition and colour shine through, capturing the dreamlike quality of the locations in a bold, vibrant way. Playing out in a quick-cut montage of dynamic vignettes, it's a fast-moving visual packed full of stylish art direction and standout performance moments.
