René 'Better U' by Caroline Hajny
Caroline Hajny directs a dynamic performance promo for René.
The video for Better U spans a handful of fashion editorial-style vignettes, using lighting and camera effects to create an effervescent aesthetic.
The energetic performance complements the coruscating track, and is perfectly captured through Kitt Sullivan's stylised cinematography, switching between glossy black and white and vibrant colour for dramatic effect.
CAROLINE HAJNY:
The song shows such an interesting contrast... that I wanted to translate in the video.
"For the visuals for Better U we decided to stay very true to the narrative of the song and compliment the bouncy and vibrant production. Working closely with the musical team behind the track, we shared some of the references, eg Aaliyah, just to name one of them.
"The song itself, a candid critique of knowing your worth, shows such an interesting contrast between lyrics and this getting-stuck-in-your-head dance beat that I wanted to translate in the video: there's René dancing, relieved and having moved on, in contrast to darkness and these trippy shots of her being (almost literally) torn in a way by the things in her mind."
