Rachel Chinouriri 'Darker Place' by Milo Blake
Milo Blake ponders upon the duality of our minds, in his promo for Rachel Chinouriri's Darker Place.
Opening with a high-angle shot of the artist adorned in striking emerald and baby pink fabric, the visual sinks into a fascinating surrealist vision, carrying the colour schemes over to two dichotomic set pieces.
It's a beautiful piece of work, with showstopping cinematography from Alex Denning, who gives each setup its own distinctive look and feel, and some killer choreography.
MILO BLAKE:
We wanted some sort of physical battle of our best and worst impulses.
"A surreal observation of the duality of our minds represented through two rooms designed to evoke these opposing forces within us. I was working from a saying that your eyes are the windows to your soul, and how we could do a literal interpretation of this idea. What textures, colours, imagery would align with this.
"In addition to having the rooms explore this, we wanted some sort of physical battle of our best and worst impulses which we symbolised through a dance sequence.
"Key characteristics of the movement I wanted to have, were things that could allow interesting transitions between the two - so like arms going over faces or particular turns, but then also have some explosive qualities to indicate a conflict."
