The Vamps 'Better' by Jordan Rossi

Promonews - 9th Oct 2020

The Vamps' frontman Bradley Simpson gets pugilistic in an abstract space in Jordan Rossi's punchy promo for Better.

Combining the colour palette adopted in Rossi's photo campaign for their new album with the boxing theme, dovetailing with an energetic, imaginatively-shot performance, makes for a pink-hued piledriver to showcase the Brit pop band's latest hit.

JORDAN ROSSI:

It was great to contrast the masculine thematic of boxing/fighting with a 'feminine' colour.

"Working with the band again was so much fun. This was my second major collaboration with them after having shot the stills for the album campaign [for] Cherry Blossom. It was great to be able to bring the aesthetic we had established in the photography to the music video as the boys inhabit this pink pastel world. It was great to contrast the masculine thematic of boxing/fighting with a 'feminine' colour.

"The key for this video was taking the narrative of the boxing world that the band had pitched, and bringing it to life within a pop performance setting. The band really wanted to communicate a narrative of overcoming adversity so it was a challenge to get these worlds to blend seamlessly together.

"Similarly, the band were very hands-on throughout the process. They really wanted to be involved at all levels from discussions on art department and cinematography through to editing and grading. It made for a really collaborative process, which is my bread and butter as I love working with artists. It also helped that we had an established shorthand together from our previous shoots."
