Wuh Oh 'Softstyle’ by ZONES

Promonews - 7th Aug 2020

Glaswegian composer-performer-producer Wuh Oh has teamed up with the digital artist, animator and game designer ZONES - aka Joe Crogan - to create a deconstructed retro-videogame-style visual for his track Softstyle.

Wuh Oh - widely touted as a future big name in dance music, and a Mixmag One To Watch for 2020 - features as a video game avatar tackling an implacable enemy, in the shape of a giant guitar-wielding, monster truck-driving demon-goblin.

Through a series of familar video game scenarios, the relationship between the combatants becomes more nuanced, entering a period of 'chill'. There is actually a moment when it looks like they may get along, where they have a friendly game of basketball... But that that just becomes a prelude to the climactic mega-battle of apocalyptic destruction. The fun stuff.

Describing the context behind the video, Wuh Oh says: ‘What would the ultimate Wuh Oh video game look like?’ This has been the question permeating many of our discussions for months. Turns out it looks less like real video games and more like the games of our dreams.

"Combining an eclectic mix of our favourite pop culture, film and anime influences, Softstyle is untethered by stylistic limitations, representing a reality where anything is possible... and where goblins run riot."
