Girl Band 'Going Norway' by Bob Gallagher
A man riddled with anxiety breaks down at a therapist's office in the video for Going Norway, Bob Gallagher's latest harrowingly intense yet mesmerising video for Girl Band.
As with his previous videos for the band, Gallagher introduces us to a character experiencing a nightmarish situation from which there appears to be no escape. In this case, it happens to be where a person could expect some respite from the outside world. Instead, in an office of deep red, bathed in sickly yellow lighting, he faces a personal, terrifying Hell.
As the main character sits down, he begins to mouth the words of the track. This is intermittently picked up by the therapist as he writes down the next line of the song, anticipating what the anxious man will say next. After being hypnotised, the room suddenly transforms into a confession box, as the antagonistic therapist continues to scream the lyrics from the other side of the screen. This transformation is repeated several times throughout the video, moving into a situation even more surreal than before. Paired with the unique camera angles and stellar performances from both cast members, creates a claustrophobic and unsettling mood.
Evan Barry confidently executes the cinematography, creating an air of unease with the dramatic lighting and camerawork, and Matt Branton's colour grade is truly inspired, with saturated reds and muted yellows which could have come straight from a Giallo film.
