Empara Mí 'The Comedown' by Christopher Turner

Luke Bather - 13th Sept 2016

Chris Turner (aka Favourite Colour: Black) and Empara Mi bring us a technological first with this fantastical face-mapping video.

With no effects added in post, this video takes the facial recognition technology you might well be using to give yourself a set of dog ears on Snapchat to a whole new level. Live 3D projection mapped masks of fire and colourful swirls against a slew of coloured backgrounds beamed right onto the silhouetted face of Empara herself - it's a truly engrossing watch and technology we'd love to see more of in the future!

Empara spent time with the software creators in Japan developing animations specifically for this video - apparently the first music video to use this facial mapping technology. The video was shot using sensors to detect and track the position and orientation of the human face, then video animation was projected onto it, adjusting accordingly in real time as the face moves.
