John Hillcoat’s video for Massive Attack’s The Spoils combines a hypnotic, mesmerising facial metamorphosis through different mediums, with the music video debut from one of Hollywood’s biggest actresses, Cate Blanchett.

The impressionistic piece is both intimate and revelatory, a measured and haunting study of beauty evolving into something mysterious and crude. From pixels to organic matter, the camera circles around the subject-turned-object, as it cycles through these multiple states.
