James Lawes' promo for Atriums is a beautiful piece of narrative film that blurs the lines of what makes a traditional music promo.
Cat's Eyes 'Drag' by James Lawes
Oh my good lord. James Lawes' presents a scene of domestic normality, in his video for Cat's Eyes' Drag. But as his protagonists are the band's Faris Badwan and Rachel Zeffiri, they are manifestly ill-suited to this scenario. And that expresses itself in extreme, wince-inducing violence.
This is a deadpan comedy with a very dark edge indeed - and it doesn't let up. Not for the squeamish, but awfully entertaining. And Badwan and Zeffira are bloody great.
