Annie Stokes 'Wrecker' by Patrick Mason

Patrick Mason has directed this promo for Annie Stokes' Wrecker, illustrating a troubled and fragile relationship, resulting in the feeling of being trapped in an endless cycle.
This is expressed with the use of repetition, with the shots reversed then repeated various times. The final result conveys a truly stunted, hesitant and disfunctional relationship dynamic.Â
PATRICK MASON:
"Repetition is really the soul of hopelessness. If things never change they can never get better. They can't get worse either, so it can be comforting. In a lot of ways you have to be brave to break out of the intoxication of familiarity. Annie's song really brings out a lot of those qualities. There's a lot of uncertainty in it, you can't tell if she truly wants out, even though she knows it's bad.Â
"Relationships are often not as dramatic as movies would make you believe. It's a lot of little things done again and again that make them bad. The "ping-ponging" of the shots was meant to capture that feeling. It's the insignificant things done over and over that often drive us apart and then bring us back."
