Kelela has us under her spell throughout A Message, her latest promo directed by Daniel Sannwald (the man behind i-D's frenetic visuals for M.I.A.'s Y.A.L.A.) and shot by Jake Scott. The video commands our attention through its staccato of poignant, slow-stuttering beats paired with the gripping, intimate portraiture of Kelela's performance. 

In the video, Sannwald plays with light and bathes Kelela in hues of red, purple and black representing the stage that comes before lust, the darker realisation of love. Capturing the moment Kelela cuts off her trademark dreadlocks, the video ends with the LA-based singer-songwriter being transformed into an animation manga-style character, created and directed by Fantasista Utamaro.
