I Am Giant 'Transmission' by Søren Schaller
David Knight - 12th Sept 2014
Søren Schaller's second video for the London-based Kiwi rock outfit I Am Giant has the band performing in a sun-dappled field at dawn. It's an unusual but highly appropriate location, as the backdrop to their performance of their song Transmission is an extrordinary shortwave radio antenna. No GGI here, that thing is real.
And the entire video was shot within three hours as the sun came up.
SØREN SCHALLER:
"This is my second video with I Am Giant, and we had a clear vision of a very energetic and expressive performance that is set on a location combining technology and nature.
"So we shot the video for Transmission with an eye-catching landmark in the background - an old but still working 60’s shortwave radio broadcast antenna at the transmitter station in Nauen (Brandenburg) in Germany. It's an iconic symbol for struggling to communicate and going round in circles. From this antenna, they are sending messages and programs all over the world every day.
"Being a young director, I insist on developing new projects with passion and energy. My technical and visual experience in cameras has a great influence on my concepts. And I love to work with international artists like I Am Giant. Not only for the international experience, I also love the music and their struggle to push their art."
