Vance Joy 'First Time' by Sing J Lee
Melbourne singer-songwriter Vance Joy teams up with Sing J Lee for this sensitive video portrayal of his single First Time - taken from the forthcoming album Dream Your Life Away (September 5).
Shot at photographic facility Waddington Studios, Sing's bittersweet promo documents the joy and heartbreak of a first love...
SING J LEE:
"First Time felt like it was sung with both warmth and heartache recalling the first love, from the boundless naivety to the rift and increasing disconnection. James was our narrator.
"I wanted the image and colours to match the lyrics, soft glows and varying richness of colours in the photography and in the grade to match the ebb and flow of dynamic between the characters in the story, this was created by great cinematography and grading work from Valentin Vignet and Ian Mclaughlin respectively.
"Our set for the day was the blank but beautifully built Waddington Photographic Studio, and our production designer, Francesca Massariol worked smartly to create all the chic looking rooms in our story.
"As always, I like to introduce an elevated, surreal final third act to drive home the last portion of the track. The 'bullet time' moment at the end was created in-camera, finessed and brought to life with some great VFX work by Liam Rustill."
