Equals 'Pyre' by Louis Ellison
David Knight - 16th Apr 2014
In his video for Equals' Pyre, Louis Ellison cleverly integrates the talents of dancer and choreographer Fabrice Omores with the song's fiery theme. The dancer makes his way through the backstreets and deserted docks of East London, emitting clouds of smoke, with smouldering clothes.
Louis reveals that the artist approached him initially with an idea of setting someone on fire, as the track uses fire as a metaphor for ambition and the feelings of anxiety created by the standards we measure ourselves against.Â
The director – whose past credits include Damon Albarn, Tinie Tempah and CHVRCHES – then developed that 'man on fire' idea into a symbolic journey of struggle personified by Fabrice's compelling performance. And it was shot by Doug Walshe, DoP of the hugely successful Naughty Boy La La La video, and much more.
