The video for Elbow's New York Morning is directed by Mark Thomas and Mat Norman of Manchester-based Soup Collective and was, suitably enough, shot in New York City. It's also a thoroughly heartwarming short doc about a New York couple called Dennis and Lois, that's been years in the making.

Dennis and Lois, are a late-middle aged couple who were brought together by their similar enthusiasm for punk rock, have turned their house into a shrine of musical memorabilia, and who have made friends with bands across musical generations (Mark E Smith, no less, has described them as "caring, sharing Americans”) 

This film began some ten years ago, when Mark and Mat, working respectively with Elbow and Doves on a joint tour of the US, met Dennis and Lois, who were doing merchandise for Doves. With a shared feeling that there was a story to tell, they began filming the couple whenever work brought them near to New York.

Years later, and many hours of footage from staying at Dennis and Lois's house, Mark and Mat started exploring the right format for the project - and that's when Elbow with whom Mark has a longstanding relationship, got involved. 

The result is partly a music doc - an alternative history of New York punk rock, CBGBs and everything - partly a love story. Lovely stuff.
