The Night VI 'Thinking Of You' by Claire Kurylowski

David Knight - 15th July 2013

Claire Kurylowski brings synthy pop outfit The Night's VI to the majestic setting of a 'Tarkovsky-esque' ruined abbey in South Wales, for a suitably ethereal performance of Thinking Of You, beautifully photographed by Adam Scarth.

Claire Kurylowski:

"Sophie-Rose from The Night VI, who wrote the lyrics, said early on that the song events could have been about a very short amount of time, possibly just a few minutes or an hour. I understood the intensity she meant by this and wanted its presence in the video. A kind of navigation through uncertainty and lucid, fresh emotions of desiring someone. I feel this found its translation in the setting and also fragmented sections which make up the video - as if jumping from one mood, or recapitulation, to another.

"We had a lot of fun working with the band who had influence on the premise that things should take a step away from the literal interpretation of the lyrics, which enriched the visual approach we took.

"I was reunited with long term collaborator Adam Scarth(cinematographer), and we shot in South Wales in a Tarkovsky-esque ceilingless abbey. Adam had a great sense of understanding of what I aimed to achieve and I felt crafted the mood with fluidity in his work, including his sensitivity to the different colour palettes used. All of the video is handheld and with Adam's experience in documentary shooting, he was very intuitive in his operating.

"Costume and styling in the video was key to assimilating the band within the setting, so it was a privilege to work with Ameena Kara Callender who corralled this look for the six band members.

"Big thanks to Tim at Stitchthat and Jason Bradbury who made this all possible and provided great support throughout!"
