The 2 Bears 'Work' by Zaiba Jabbar

David Knight - 6th Jan 2012

The 2 Bears (aka Joe Goddard of Hot Chip & Raf Rundell) set the tone for their year with the house-fuelled anthem Work, which has inspired this sketchbook of ordinary hardworking Londoners by Zaiba Jabbar - rather a change of direction from her previous fashion films and vids. But it really works.

But it really works. "The video took us to the very charismatic Brixton market - a real departure for me, as I'm more used to swirling colours and trippy-vibes than descaling fish and hanging out at the veg-stall," says Zaiba. "There was nothing complicated about the idea. We simply wanted to capture an essence of working life. Brixton market was the location as Raf's wife, Rosie, has a great deli down there and although the shoot didn't pass without trouble (we got kicked out by the market-manager!) we ended up with enough material to match Joe and Raf's pithy and pitch-perfect epithets to the need to 'get up every morning - work harder, for each other, for the future, my love we gotta work'." http://www.youtube.com/watchv=IU5-XJ-X99c
