Laura Marling’s Night Terror by Russell Weekes

David Knight - 6th Nov 2008

Russell Weekes is a new directing talent with loads of potential, and his highest profile video to date is Laura Marling's Night Terror. Shot at night, initially in the forest and then on a lake, the lovely Laura is a presence even in her absence in this more surreal-than-scary vid. A night fisherman uses unlikely yet logical equipment to attempt to reel in the elusive young folkie. "I reckon most people would just say it was 'Blair witch with musical instruments'," says Russell. "Laura said she'd rather have a cameo than be the focus. From what I already knew of her she prefers to stay out of the spotlight so I tried to make this the theme of the video. "The basic premise was that the fisherman tries to catch Laura, and eventually she risks being caught to get the microphone because she loves to sing. "I was lucky to have a great crew of people working with me to make it. I had never worked with a crew before, let alone a night shoot involving a lake, so it was definitely a fun learning experience." http://uk.youtube.com/watchv=7bu7CTfMYQw[/youtube]
