The Guillotines’ Stronger by Dan & Crinan

David Knight - 22nd Aug 2008

Brighton band The Guillotines create a messy garage-swamp blues-rock (with added South Coast twang) which gets a suitably sleazy, sweaty, eye-popping video from Dan and Crinan.

After the fat bloke runs bare-chested through the wastelands of East London (nice), it all kicks off down the pub. Dan Lumb on making the video for The Guillotines' Stronger "We shot the whole thing out in Hackney Wick, in the Lord Napier, soon to be demolished. It was such a good location, with endless possibilities. All the exteriors were shot around the surrounding warehouses. "We had so little money, we couldn't really afford many lights - we made makeshift kinos out of old kitchen lights and begged, borrowed and stole a couple of 1ks from Th1ng. "Steve Annis did an amazing job DoP'ing for us. Any money we had we spent on film stock - a very cheap end of the line from Fuji. We really wanted a dirty 16 mm feel for this. "Various extras would turn up throughout the day in response to a last minute Myspace post added by the band. We were quite harsh, throwing people in front of the camera and shoving them around. We shot pretty much everything at 75 fps. "Sorry and thank-you to all the extras!"
