London-based production company Friend has announced that director Pedro Takahashi&nbsp;has joined their UK roster for music video representation.Previously an assistant to top director Daniel Wolfe, Takahashi has established&nbsp;himself as one of the most promising up-and-coming music video directors in London, working with an eclectic mix of exciting artists including Shame, Chubby and the Gang, and most recently, an&nbsp;acclaimed film for Sam Akpro.With roots stemming from Spain and Japan, coupled with a formative upbringing in London and a fervent passion for punk and techno, he draws upon a diverse spectrum of influences. Pedro Takahashi directs a stirring promo for Sam Akpro, as&nbsp;the artist&nbsp;and his band take on the role of Wall Street-style bankers, trapped in a never-ending cycle of working hard and playing even harder.With inventive use of split screen and&nbsp;perpetually dynamic camerawork, the video for Death By Entertainment is&nbsp;a melancholic yet alluring visual befitting of the lilting track.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"Reflecting the lyrics' theme of repetition and the crushing daily grind, we used motion control to create a circular camera movement that we come back to throughout the video," Takahashi explains."This allowed us to explore the dichotomy between night and day, and show how when you are physically and mentally exhausted, the line between night/day, or being awake/asleep, becomes thin and ever more blurry. I wanted to portray these ideas in an (hopefully) original and aesthetically interesting way."

Pedro Takahashi directs a slow-burning&nbsp;reflection on city life,&nbsp;exploding into a sequence of brilliant blurry colour,&nbsp;for Real Lies.&nbsp;In the video for DiCaprio, we see vocalist&nbsp;Kevin Lee Kharas take a&nbsp;late night taxi ride through London, reminiscing on his old hedonistic lifestyle. As we move from night to day, the camera turns on the city. We go from dark to light and from the past towards the future.Mixing subtle, drawn out takes and a more frantic, slow-shutter dreamworld, the video reflects the binary quality of the duo's music, and the dichotomy between the past and the future.[imgtoken data:1]"The video explores the fast paced, electric nature of London, and our ability to get lost in it," says Takahashi.&nbsp;"Thematically, we wanted to explore the idea of hedonism and excess and the inevitable need to eventually relinquish that lifestyle."The video also functions as a sort of ethnographic exploration of London as it is, here and now - the buildings, bridges and people that exist in the city - blurring the line between fiction and documentary."

"The internet and our phones mean we are always hooked up to a global network, allowing us to be connected to people and places all over the world. It is becoming increasingly difficult for us to switch off and exist solely in the here and now. I wanted to take these ideas and have fun with them - whilst allowing the band’s inimitable energy and charisma to take centre stage."
