Sean Pecknold's video for his Portland-based friends Pure Bathing Culture and their track Ivory Coast is a bucolic romance, featuring bandmembers Sarah Versprille and Dan Hindman - and Sarah's little blue friend. So having made the delightful video for Here We Go Magic earlier this year, it's Sean's second drily humourous piece featuring a strange menage a trois in a matter of months... 
"I became friends with Dan and Sarah from PBC as soon as I moved to Portland," says Sean. "I love the music they are making, and then they asked me to make a video. I said...sure let's do it. I really wanted to shoot something in Oregon, and specifically in the strange area south of Astoria on the coast, a place called Sunset Beach. 
"I wanted to make more of a performance video something I haven't done much of in the past. We went back and forth on the concept then spent a weekend out there, and made the video. I made the little blue creature just before leaving on our way out there. We luckily found an amazing trailer park with stylized interiors, that worked well for the story and just seemed to fit the world. They are a great band, and I expect greatness from their coming LP."

Shot on location in Paris and with an excellent deadpan performance from model Miss Sandra, Martin explained:
"Police showed up a couple of times on the set because the neighbours reported vandalism - a girl was throwing rocks through windows but the rock is of course fake and just bounced off the glass..."

Echoing the dreamy soundscape of Saint Lou Lou's Maybe You, Philippe Tempelman offers up this gorgeous slo-mo black and white feast with some sublime photography from Mattias Montero.
"We spent one day shooting inside an apartment in central Stockholm and one day outdoors, on an island called Muskö," explains Philiipe.
"We shot on both the Phantom Flex and on the Alexa. I worked closely with Mattias and we wanted the video to be cinematic, both the photography and feel of the video as a whole. 
"I was also privileged to grade the video together with Mats Holmgren who's resume includes films like Let The Right One In and Control".

The brothers Lockey, aka Handheldcineclub, are a dab hand at putting together a promo for cult indie bands, having done videos for Editors, Band of Skulls, Maps and Atlases and more. This new work sees them in on form, really twisting the emotional knife to Frightened Rabbit's heartbreak ballad. Shot in London, with some amazing tower-block views, a woman struggles with a life of hardship with the viewer catching glimpses of the past and present.
"We've worked closely with Frightened Rabbit quite a lot since we did 'The Loneliness &amp; The Scream' video for them a couple of years ago at the end of their 'Winter of Mixed Drinks' record. The best thing about working closely over a period of time is that, after a while you can hope to gain more of an insight on how best to convey what you feel the song is about, more than just tipping up and shooting a band and moving on. 
"Hopefully it's more in sync with the original spark of an idea that created the song as opposed to just throwing together a load of images that look cool whilst the tune plays in the background with no connection...The emotive and vivid lyrics are very strong on this tune so we just went with it. We reckon it turned out pretty cool."

Singer-songwriter partnership Jon Lilygreen and Jon Maguire - two close friends from Newport in South Wales - team up with Greg Davenport for this utterly charming promo to new single Given Up Giving Up. 
Davenport shot the promo over two days in Streatham Common and Kingsbury, London. For the starring role, Greg cast Thomas Harrison - aged 7 - to play the part of an 11 year old "he completely blew us away" says Greg.
"The brief for the video was pretty open but we all agreed we wanted to stay away from a straight-up, ordinary romantic storyline" explains Greg. "I knew a Karate Kid-esque, archetypal plucky-loser turned victorious-winner story would work for the song - and as it's a genre we're all so very familiar with I wanted the competition itself to be a little quirky and unexpected. 
"So I trawled the internet for the strangest competitions I could find, and after a brief flirtation with Snail Racing (as a kid I kept snails from the garden and bred them in plastic tanks, much to my Mother's dismay with the continued disappearance of lettuces from the fridge) I eventually settled on Rock, Paper Scissors. 
"I thought there would be something inherently funny in a kid training so religiously for a competition that is largely seen as nothing more than blind luck and chance".

The video arrived last week amidst a lot of speculation that Waits was about to announce a tour. However, various teasers posted by the great man were, as it turned out, for the Hell Broke Luce video - where Mahurin's famous distressed film style is combined with After Effects to create what Waits himself has described as "an apocalyptic war dream". 
"Kathleen [Brennan, Waits' wife and artistic collaborator] and I envisioned it as an enlightened drill sergeant yelling the hard truths of war to a brand new batch of recruits," Waits continued, in his announcement accompanying the new promo. "[It] grew from the gnawing image of a soldier pulling his home through a battlefield at the end of a rope. I think you will agree, it's uplifting and fun."
