Directing duo Broken Antenna reunite with Hak Baker for his collaboration with Ezra Collective member Joe Armon-Jones's new project to create not just a terrific promo but a hugely powerful short doc about gentrification in London's East End.As Armon-Jones and Baker's song Wrong Side Of Town is about being priced out of a&nbsp;traditionally working class quarter of London, the video sees Baker cycling through the area he grew up in,&nbsp;observing the effects of gentrification, but also the surviving parts of a working-class community that continue to define the city.Myles and Gustav of Broken Antenna have addressed this subject with righteous passion and considerable skill. With their experience in mixed media, they use various tools to augment the already excellent camerawork capturing&nbsp;Hak's cycle journey. And they continue to introduce new elements to&nbsp;grip the viewer to their subject&nbsp;- even as the track follows an appealing laidback reggae rhythm - leading to a stirring final section involving interviews with some proud East Enders.[imgtoken data:1]Giving more context, Hak Baker says: “All our lives people have been looking down their noses at us but we used to have the safe haven of the estate, blocks and high roads to commune and be human. Now, we hardly have that. The wealthy come to our area to take over and not take part, shoving us outwardly looking down their biased beaks."Nah mate, not round here. I think it’s time to scream and shout that we’re here to stay and if you don’t like it, you must be on the wrong side of the town.”&nbsp;Ultimately this is a film which potentially transcends its nominal purpose as a pop promo to reach a wider audience, to raise awareness and emotions, putting the issue of gentrification on the political agenda. Something like that does not happen too often. Bravo to all involved.&nbsp;

Simon Owens directs an unconventional love story for London-based electronic duo Technology + Teamwork.&nbsp;And if you've never seen a love story between two trashbags, you're in for a treat...Owens' idea is essentially a simple one, executed to perfection:&nbsp;a pair of red plastic bin bags lipsyncing convincingly to&nbsp;what the director describes as "a horror version banger of an Eastern European Eurovision pop song."Shot in a realistic, 'warts and all' way - with the bin bags situated in all the places you would usually find them -&nbsp;the visual feels gritty yet charming, and strangely fitting to the track."On first listen I genuinely found the opening vocal shocking," says Owens."It could be a pitched-down Taylor Dayne&nbsp;singing a Hall and Oates&nbsp;tune over Belgian Techno. I had to make a video for this tune."But what? Two bin bags, one in love with another, no matter what, run over, hospitalised, and lip-syncing. Natch."Natch indeed.&nbsp;

Directing duo Mathy &amp; Fran return to music videos with a very characteristic piece for Georgia's latest pop gem: sensitive, humane and pastel-hued. And it touches on a subject that many&nbsp;people have faced, literally and metaphorically.&nbsp;In the video for Give It Up For Love, a range of characters take turns to stand upon a high diving board, and are challenged to make an all-important leap.It's a relatable moment where personal courage is required, but given a metaphorical&nbsp;element by it's staging, on a bright yellow platform against a pastel-pink studio background. Animation maestro Chris Ullens reunites with Rex Orange County, with their first collaboration since Loving Is Easy back in 2017, to create a sweetly romantic tale for Amazing.In contrast to <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/11/09/rex-orange-county-ft-benny-sings-loving-easy-chris-ullens/50382" target="_blank">Loving Is Easy</a>, where he employed stop motion to animate Rex's bedroom performance with Benny Sings, Ullens opted to use hand puppets to handcraft his story about Mr Hand - a milkman of an alpine town, who milks Cow each morning before going on his delivery round.But his happy regular routine is disturbed when he meets&nbsp;a young lady (hand), falling head-over-thumbs in love..."It's really cool that [Rex] came back to us for a second one!" says Chris Ullens. "He said it was the sister song to the first one we did a video for, and that he wanted us to be back on it for that. But the schedule was mad -&nbsp;so instead of stop-motion we suggested puppeteering and he loved the idea. The schedule was still mad though, as we took four and a half weeks to deliver. But really pleased with the result!"

His output in music videos has been sporadic in recent years, but now two videos by Anthony Dickenson have arrived at once. The first is for the Daniel Brandt's remix of London band Friedberg's Midi 8, which creates a soaring connection to the music with an entirely minimal approach.Created entirely on a car journey in Athens with&nbsp;Friedberg lead singer Anna F, Dickenson takes an almost abstract approach to an intimate moment, capturing the singer in a series of extreme, near tactile close-ups. Rather than quick-cutting, Dickenson uses the effect of street lighting, Anna's wind-blown hair&nbsp;as the car speeds along, and camera speed-ramps to dovetail the visuals with the music.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In characteristic fashion, Anthony Dickenson has created something hypnotic yet visceral, by exploring the visual possibilities of a single set-up for all its worth.[imgtoken data:1]

Eoin Glaister captures the erstwhile ambitions of a frustrated smalltime DJ&nbsp;- played by BAFTA-winning actress Lauren Socha - in his return to music videos for Liverpool DJ-producer Mentis.Glaister&nbsp;captures the tragi-comic trials and tribulations of Kent’s premium mobile party provider, DJ Debs - played with real pathos by the superb Socha - in the video for Excuses, featuring Kate Wild.&nbsp;Her dream is to be a proper superstar DJ in Ibiza. The painful truth is that she is playing children's parties and weddings... if she's lucky.It's a classic comic storyline of the hapless wannabe, whose dreams of fame bear no resemblance to the reality. But in this case, it's made all the more poignant and funny&nbsp;due to Lauren Socha's performance&nbsp;- and by the fact her character begins to realise that she is not destined for stardom. She becomes increasingly disillusioned by her situation - but it's then when things finally start to turn around...&nbsp;Eoin Glaister has done a wonderful job with a great part for a superb actor and a down-at-heel setting that works perfectly for the narrative. Shot on 16mm, using an Arri SR3, this was achieved on what EP Hannah Bellil describes as a&nbsp;"three day escapade with a really close knit team" in the more run-down towns along the Kent coast, which allowed Socha get up to some seaside hijinks, including an 'Ibiza dream sequence' with a&nbsp;jet-ski.&nbsp;“We had so much fun making this," adds Bellil. "Lauren is an amazing talent and the opportunity for Eoin to build in dialogue with her was a total joy. However, I didn’t get to go on the jet ski, so I will be going back... to Ibiza this time.”&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]
