Actress (and trained ballet dancer)&nbsp;Margaret Qualley stars&nbsp;in this charming promo for Grammy-winning producer Jack Antonoff's band Bleachers, co-directed by Alex Lockett and Qualley herself.The video for Tiny Moves sees the actress dance&nbsp;around an empty car park just before sunset, eventually joining Antonoff -her husband - on the hood of his&nbsp;idling car.It's a concept fit for the end scene of an 80's rom-com - by no mistake, given the group's open admiration for old John Hughes films - and blends different dance techniques with lingering shots and a beautiful New York backdrop.

One the one hand, Alex Lockett's video for New Jersey band Bleachers looks quite simple and straightforward: it captures the band in performance in a studio rehearsal room. And at the start, as frontman and driving force Jack Antonoff enters the studio, it sounds live. But there's nothing simple about the way this marvellously watchable promo has&nbsp;come together.Musically, Bleachers are a throwback, with a clear debt to their antecedents, particularly fellow Jersey-ite Bruce Springsteen. And they radiate a&nbsp;similar exuberant energy to Bruce and his E-Street Band in the early days. All this is here - with a palpable sense of collective joy in the band performing their decidedly old school-sounding song Modern Girl.Lockett puts the viewer right in the middle of it, with an immediacy that actually comes from terrific craft.&nbsp;Brilliantly shot by&nbsp;Ian Barling and edited by Jerry Chia, it's&nbsp;a&nbsp;great&nbsp;experience from first to last. That has&nbsp;a lot to do with Antanoff and his bandmates,&nbsp;as well as the filmmakers, but it feels like&nbsp;the most compelling band&nbsp;performance video for a long time.

Alexandre Moors directs this taboo-busting performance video.A tribute to various women, the progressive video features cameos from activists and role models including her mother Tish Cyrus, along with trans models Casil MacArthur&nbsp;and Aaron Philip, and&nbsp;dancer Amazon Ashley. The progressive performance video features various taboos: images of breastfeeding, menstruation pads, scars, and a slogan that reads: "virginity is a social construct”.&nbsp;It benefits from some lush photography from DOP Natasha Braier (of The Neon Demon) and a lively grade by Ron Sudul.<blockquote>Music videos are the great barometer of popular culture in the 21st century. In fact, her performance at the MTV VMAs was arguably the agent that propelled conversations about cultural appropriation into the mainstream. But the majority of the criticism levelled at Cyrus was from a public that simply weren’t ready for a female star expressing her sexuality so candidly. This video is equally provocative, at least to a mainstream audience. But when the worst Fox News can say is that the video&nbsp;<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/miley-cyrus-mothers-daughter-music-video-mixed-reviews">“draws mixed reactions”</a>, it makes you think. And when The Daily Mail calls it&nbsp;<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7205221/Miley-Cyrus-snuggles-mom-Tish-beautifully-diverse-Mothers-Daughter-video.html">“beautifully diverse”</a>, it occurs to you quite how dramatically culture has changed in a short six years.

Like the first it centres on phenomenal dancer Mette Towley, but the video for 1000 is more controversial, diving headlong into the polarised politics of the United States.&nbsp;Clearly influenced by the work of Arthur Jafa - the great Jay-Z 4:44 video, for example - and Beyoncé&#39;s Formation, it starts with clips of news footage - clashes between white nationalists and left-leaning protesters - in a seemingly&nbsp;unmediated way.&nbsp;There follows&nbsp;a break in the track to include a monologue by Mike Tyson at his boxing peak.Thought-provoking stuff, although it may not be entirely clear what message we&#39;re supposed to take from this Tutorial. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Bruno Mars keeps it simple but utterly captivating for the video for That&rsquo;s What I Like, directed by Jonathan Lia and Mars: he commands the screen from start to finish, with some hand-drawn animations relating to the lyrics adding the only flourishes to the natural Mars charisma and fancy footwork.There is another element that gives Bruno&#39;s dancing a special kinetic quality. Lia filmed him performing to the audio track played at half it&#39;s normal speed - so the single take video was nearly eight minutes long.&nbsp;Then Lia played back the footage at 200% that speed to achieve a delightfully surreal effect.&nbsp;.Yes, it&#39;s the same effect as Garth Jennings used in Vampire Weekend&#39;s A Punk video all those years ago, and it turns out it also works very well with a bone fide pop showman like Mars. And, according to Jonathan Lia,&nbsp;it all came about by accident.&nbsp;&ldquo;It was originally written as a completely different concept,&quot; he says. &quot;We held a test shoot in LA, and weren&rsquo;t getting what we wanted. So we turned off all the lights except one and he just danced; it was magical and we immediately knew that was the video.&rdquo;The literal approach to the choreography allowed Lia and Mars to map out a few of the animations prior to filming, however purposely left some frames unplanned to see what would best support the visuals in post. The team at GenPop in Los Angeles expertly handled the scope of animation work.&ldquo;This was very much a true co-direction,&rdquo; says Lia. &ldquo;Bruno is one of the most humble yet invested artists I&rsquo;ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Despite his hectic schedule, he was involved every single step of the way. This video was very much a vehicle to just let Bruno be Bruno &ndash; you don&rsquo;t need anything else.&rdquo;

Blondie are back, releasing their&nbsp;song&nbsp;Fun from their upcoming album Pollinator, with Debbie Harry looking stunning, and a colourful, psychedelia-tinged&nbsp;narrative by&nbsp;NYC-based director Dikayl Rimmasch.With a performance sequence that the director describes as&nbsp;&quot;flash photography from a punk show,&quot; shot with one primary light right overhead of the camera, and an element of science fiction, it&#39;s a very stylish piece evocative of decades of pop culture.&nbsp;Dikayl Rimmasch describes the main character in the narrative element of the video as, &quot;a beautiful androgynous kid kind of drugged-out, cruising to Mars and finding a party there. Or maybe the whole trip was in this characters mind. We didn&rsquo;t want to take the sci-fi elements too seriously, so we did these light-hearted animations and shot in this minimal Apollo capsule set.&quot;

It tells the story of a girls&#39; infatuation for a young man in at least two distinct styles, giving it a different interpretation each time, to reveal more of the narrative.Scott wrote this, and Michael photographed it - in two wildly contrasting formats -&nbsp;and its dreamlike quality is emphasised by what happens on the dancefloor: a sort of Northern Soul&nbsp;ballet, choreographed by&nbsp;Robert Binet.It all leads to a poignant&nbsp;moment which is very Belle &amp; Sebastian...&nbsp;&nbsp;
