The first release from the collaboration between Ligeti Quartet, a contemporary/new music&nbsp;string quartet, and composer/producer Anna Meredith, on upcoming album Nuc, comes with a hypnotic animated visual from Ewan Jones Morris, offering a stylised vision of the natural world.The music is a fresh arrangement of Meredith's composition Tuggemo - an old word for a swarm of insects. And Jones Morris creates an evolving animation around that - growth,&nbsp;insects, disco bugs, spores...There are certainly lots of creepy&nbsp;crawlies - and like his recent video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2023/01/13/hotel-lux-points-view-ewan-jones-morris/79860" target="_blank">Hotel Lux</a>, Jones Morris used AI to augment his own work."I created images then fed them into AI which gave me variations and then used those images to animate," he says.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

Ewan Jones Morris takes us back into the marvellous world of cut-up montage animation - and then adds a modern tech spin for good measure - for South London indie band Hotel Lux.The video for the rather excellent Points Of View is a surreal mash of performance and textures, with a nostalgic zine aesthetic, courtesy of the technique of mixing&nbsp;cut-out stills with lo-fi video of the band performing, and other paper elements, that Jones Morris executed with the help of&nbsp;Louise Mason and William Reid.&nbsp;Together the three of them run a 'collage club'&nbsp;at State51, Hotel Lux's label, called <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stickypleasure/" target="_blank">Sticky Pleasure</a>, where&nbsp;people hang out and make collages. So the video became a logical extension of that project.[imgtoken data:1]But as well as creating animating&nbsp;in the old-fashioned stop-frame way, Jones Morris also employed some AI to extend the capacity of the form. The effect is to super-charge the animation without disrupting its essential character.So body parts and landscapes entangle, faces crumple and eyeballs appear at every corner, in this wonderful, whimsical piece of work.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;"The video is pretty straightforward,&nbsp;low budget fare: lads, guitars and paper collage," explains Jones Morris. "But despite it's lo-fi DIY aesthetic some of the imagery is created by feeding collages into AI algorithms&nbsp;and seeing how the images are reinterpreted."I guess it's partly an attempt to utilise some of these already ubiquitous AI image generators in a very handmade, lo-fi way."

Ewan Jones Morris and Casey Raymond have been making videos for John Grant since his first solo album&nbsp;Queen Of Denmark&nbsp;came out more than a decade ago. It's been a remarkable collaboration, resulting in some of the weirdest, wackiest and darkly humourous&nbsp;videos ever made by a sensitive singer-songwriter from North America.Something about Grant's deeply personal lyrics and mordant sense of humour brings out the best of a couple of Welshmen with a taste for the iconoclastic, irreverent and deeply absurd. Their latest, for the&nbsp;title track from his latest album Boy From Michigan, is fully in the tradition of the likes of Marz, Global Warming, and particularly, <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/10/17/john-grant-hes-got-his-mothers-hips-ewan-jones-morris-casey-raymond/55552" target="_blank">He's Got Your Mothers Hips</a>, where Casey &amp; Ewan recruited a small army of leftfield animation talent from across the globe to reinterpret John's performance in a variety of ways.As with Mother's Hips,&nbsp;there are a variety of animation styles here, but more focussed on illustrating the coming-of-age tale in Grant's lyrics, about the boy living a sheltered suburban life, about to set out into the big, bad world.It includes some wonderful graphic elements - from the Robert Williams's drag-racer-style opening animation, to nightmarish morphing, Punch &amp; Judy-style puppetry, painted stock footage, animated paintings and more&nbsp;- created by Jones Morris and Raymond themselves, with&nbsp;Jenny Jokela, Marcos Sánchez and Peter Raymond.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2][imgtoken data:3][imgtoken data:4]&nbsp;

Ewan Jones Morris's new video for Anna Meredith follows on from their previous collaboration for Paramour, finding interesting ways to use tiny cameras.For <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/07/15/anna-meredith-paramour-ewan-jones-morris/59752" target="_blank">Paramour</a>, there was one GoPro, attached to a very small train, made of Lego, capturing a musical performance. For Killjoy, there are lots of GoPro, to capture Meredith and her band's&nbsp;enterprising move into the world of dance.The band perform movement choreographed by David Ogle, reaching fairly complex physical interconnections (for non-dance professionals) to reflect Meredith's complex music. Jones Morris contribution is to add a further dimension, and give the performance more dynamism: the numerous GoPros are arranged in a circle; they record the action, from every angle; and&nbsp;they are also part of the video, creating a context for the performance.&nbsp;Again, it's a&nbsp;one-take deal, but editor Florence Kennard cuts between the cameras around the band to make the video&nbsp;as kinetic as the track. A mathematical approach to the modern classical-meets-math rock - math classical? -&nbsp;of Meredith's Killjoy, from the Mercury Prize-nominated&nbsp;Fibs. &nbsp;

Ewan Jones Morris follows up his excellent new video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/07/15/anna-meredith-paramour-ewan-jones-morris/59752" target="_blank">Anna Meredith</a> with another distinctive tour de force for One True Pairing, the new project from former&nbsp;former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tom Fleming.Fleming performs I'm Not Afraid while also dancing with&nbsp;unselfconscious abandon in a neutral space. It's a performance created from stills, and this&nbsp;becomes the canvas for the next layer of craft, a collage of&nbsp;images to match his face, hands, feet and the remainder of his dancing self.Then the collage technique switches to the&nbsp;background behind&nbsp;Fleming, and we see beautiful landscapes, textures and patterns cut through the silhouette of his body. Ewan Jones Morris's marvellous single-shot video for Anna Meredith, uses an unorthodox method to shoot her band performing new song Paramour. It's from a moving train - a&nbsp;Lego train, that is.Jones Morris worked with 'Lego Master Builder' Gary Davis, to create an extensive indoor track that travels through a series of sunlight rooms, and encountering musicians and their remarkable range of instruments - cello, tuba, oboe and xylophone, as well as electric guitar and various forms of percussion - along the way.Paramour is the first release from Anna Meredith's second album, FIBS, out in October.

Some with great names like Jimmy&nbsp;Screamerclauz and Kokofreakbean.&nbsp;Together with Jones Morris and Raymond, each animator has given Grant&#39;s performance of the&nbsp;characteristically snarky He&#39;s Got His Mother&#39;s Hips their own distinctive graphic stamp. The result is an cutting-edge&nbsp;mosaic of visual styles and different animation techniques, all connected by&nbsp;Grant&#39;s unmistakeable bearded visage (unmistakeable, that is, unless you think he&#39;s Father John Misty).It&#39;s a similarly diverse&nbsp;approach to the one that&nbsp;Casey + Ewan employed with their MVA-winning video for&nbsp;Leftfield &amp; Sleaford Mods&nbsp;a couple of years ago - but even more diverse. In Ewan Jones Morris&#39;s last&nbsp;video for&nbsp;Anna Meredith the frame&nbsp;is filled with rows of smaller images showing variations of everyday things -&nbsp;an excellent way to express the complex&nbsp;layers of her music. Now he&#39;s gone much further.For Dowager, this mosaic becomes&nbsp;a mad scramble&nbsp;of vintage art books, notebooks, photos and charging phones&nbsp;where each element is animated or contains live performance by members of Meredith&#39;s band.Then the imagery migrates to a flow of digital windows on a computer screen, where the performers vie with constantly changing clip art. Again&nbsp;each element is individually animated. A near-insane task brilliantly achieved by Jones Morris to reflect the sophistication of Meredith&#39;s music.

Ewan Jones Morris gives rural Wales its moment in the spotlight in this panoramic video for Islet.There&#39;s no escaping it: drones are everywhere. Now that it&#39;s cheap enough for a teenager to fly a camera around, sweeping aerial shots that once marked a video with some high-budget prestige are now all but commonplace. Ewan Jones Morris knows this, but he also knows that there&#39;s a lot of untapped creative potential in the humble drone. Cue &#39;Final Drive&#39;.Part-panoramic experiment, part-poetic ode to his roots, the video celebrates Islet&#39;s move to a rural part of Wales by making them part of the landscape. Stitching drone footage together and adding layers of surreal giant versions of the band makes for a charming rural jigsaw.

We&#39;ve all been there - concentrating and investing so hard in something only to have it ripped out from under us by a cruel twist of fate. Ewan Jones Morris and Casey Raymond&#39;s video for Lemaitre&#39;s&nbsp;Closer - their first together since their MVA-winning video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/08/11/leftfield-sleaford-mods-head-and-shoulders-ewan-casey" target="_blank">Leftfield &amp; Sleaford Mods&#39; Head &amp; Shoulders</a>&nbsp;last year &ndash; displays the hilarious catharsis of acting on those impulses.Even when you know exactly what&#39;s coming, this setup and punchline-style video is still be a fun and rewarding watch. Frankly, any video that manages to mix beautiful visuals with the cartoonish scenario of a strongman throwing a hapless, trumpet-playing schoolboy across a room is a huge, hilarious win.

Keith Schofield used the morphing effects for his recent video for Bastille, and now Ewan Jones Morris&nbsp;has done something similar, and just as effective, for&nbsp;Vancouver outfit Dralms&#39; first release Crushed Pleats - with more emphasis&nbsp;on the sheer wonder (and creepiness)&nbsp;of the transformations.This starts with changing between a young man and woman, moving on to objects and mixing and matching body parts. The effect is rather like Radiohead&#39;s Jigsaw Falling Into Place video (by BUG host Adam Buxton) without the helmet-cams...&nbsp;

This video for Pinkunoizu&#39;s Moped by Ewan Jones Morris is about stuff. Lots of stuff. With people doing lots of different&nbsp;stuff to that stuff. And they&#39;re doing it&nbsp;in a completely random yet strangely ordered way.The result is a hypnotic exercise of&nbsp;inventive play with household objects, and particularly good use of a watermelon and plunger. As Ewan explains below, it was inspired by the work of Japanese artist Koki Tanaka, and it&#39;s&nbsp;very enjoyable indeed. And he made his local hardware store owner very happy.&nbsp;It also follows his splendid cookery-themed<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk6IwOuCmLA&amp;feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">&nbsp;video-trailer for the new Pinkunoizu album The Drop</a>. &nbsp;As usual the South Wales-based director has been&nbsp;busy.&nbsp;He and regular directing partner Casey Raymond have also&nbsp;been busy recently making a film&nbsp;with artist&nbsp;Bedwyr Williams, which is now rocking the Wales Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2013. A little on the bizarre side, Ewan delivers a beautiful, ever-evolving animated collage of galaxies &ndash; including a brief homage to The Dark Side Of The Moon album cover, by the late great Storm Thorgeson &ndash; growing in intensity before coming to an abrupt halt.
&ldquo;For reasons best known to myself I printed every frame out on paper,&rdquo; says Ewan. The reason being, of course, is that it ends up looking really cool.
