COMPULSORY presents a Discussion On Safe Spaces

COMPULSORY presents a Discussion On Safe Spaces

Rob Ulitski - 30th Nov 2021

London-based production company COMPULSORY will be hosting a live discussion tomorrow (Weds, 1st December), alongside a screening of the award-winning film Play It Safe, directed by COMPULSORY-signed director Mitch Kalisa.

Taking place at the Wellcome Institute in central London, the event will present conversations from actors Joseph Marcell and Jonathan Ajayi - the latter who stars in Play It Safe, honoured at SXSW earlier this year - on their experiences and journeys, alongside a panel Q&A which looks at the discourse and awareness of safe spaces.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Julie Spencer, and will be followed by a New Talent Showcase, focussed on the cultivation of safe spaces within education and industry settings.

"It’s incredibly humbling to see the effect that Play It Safe has had, prompting discussions on systemic issues within the entertainment and educational industries," says COMPULSORY directors' representative Lee Fairweather.  "Winning the Grand Jury Prize for Narrative Short at SXSW, being selected by the BFI for the London Film Festival among winning and being nominated for numerous awards, the conversation needs to carry on."

There are limited seats left that COMPULSORY would like to open up to the next generation of creatives. If you are a young person in the industry and would like to be there, please drop them a message on  https://www.instagram.com/playitsafeshortfilm/.
