The third episode of Promonews' new series of podcasts with creatives in the music video industry is out today, with David Knight and Rob Ulitski in conversation with an animator/director who has made a unique contribution to music videos in the past decade - RUFFMERCY.

In this episode of The Promonews Podcast: Talking Music Videos - in association with WPA Worldwide Production Agency, David and Rob meet the man behind the monicker - Russ Murphy - and find out how the Bristol-based animator became a force in US hip-hop videos, bringing his unmistakable animation style to videos for Run The Jewels, Danny Brown, Young Thug, DJ Shadow, J Dilla and others.

Murphy talks about his work and career - from working at MTV as a promo producer in the 90s, and then bringing a new vision to US hip hop videos before making an impact at home in the UK. He talks about breaking into directing by remixing existing videos, his working methods - and stretching himself creatively with his more recent work for Thom Yorke, Ghetts, and dance legends The Chemical Brothers.

In each episode the hosts chat to an individual making a significant impact in music video production right now, finding out about their route into this creative arena and discussing their most important work.

In the first episode, COMPULSORY's Lee Fairweather talked about the London-based production company's prolific output of music videos in the past year or so. In the second episode, director Louis Bhose talks about his career change from music to directing, and his subsequent videos for Loyle Carner, Bombay Bicycle Club, Maisie Peters, and others.

Future episodes in the first series will feature director Salomon Ligthelm, DoP Adam Singodia and colourist Vlad Barin.
