Promonews - 7th June 2021

Promonews is delighted to announce the launch of its first podcast series The Promonews Podcast - Talking Music Videos.

The debut episode is out now - on Spotify and other platforms - in which Promonews's David Knight and Rob Ulitski talk about music videos with Lee Fairweather, director's representative at London-based production company COMPULSORY.

The Promonews Podcast - Talking Music Videos is (not surprisingly) all about music videos and the people who make them. In each episode Knight and Ulitski chat to an individual making a significant impact in music video production right now, finding out about their route into this creative arena and discussing their most important work.

The podcast aims to talk to people from across the industry - directors, producers, cinematographers, animators, editors, and more - exploring how they express their creativity and craft in different ways to make era-defining music videos. A new episode will be released every week over the next few weeks. Follow the series on Spotify here.

In the debut episode of the series, COMPULSORY's Lee Fairweather talks about the London-based production company's prolific output of music videos in the past year or so, including Stormzy’s Superheroes, directed by Taz Tron Delix, the Boy Pablo trilogy by directing duo Bedroom, and director Filmawi’s move into live music videos for Burna Boy.

He also reveals how he and COMPULSORY co-founder and EP Chris Toumazou originally became friends, bonding over music and cult pop movies. And also how his own music video education was shaped, watching hip hop videos in the 90s - particularly the early output of music video director Diane Martel.
