Emel Mathlouthi 'Kaddesh' by Marion Petegnief & Sami Battikh

Lassamie Prasimay - 22nd Aug 2018

Tunisian singer Emel Mathlouthi, who is best known for her protest songs Ya Tounes Ya Meskina ('Poor Tunisia') and Kelmti Horra ('My Word is Free') – which both became anthems for the Tunisian Revolution – is enveloped in surreal landscapes of living material, colours and textures, providing a visually striking performance of her latest cri de coeur, Kaddesh ('How Many').

Directed by Marion Petegnief and Sami Battikh, the scenes were created by combining three striking performance set-ups, spliced together with handcrafted VFX executed by the Chemical Bouillon collective. It climaxes with a bloody visual metaphor to drive home the message of the song.
