Fleet Foxes 'If You Need To, Keep Time On Me' by Ryan Heffington

David Knight - 27th July 2018

The celebrated choreographer Ryan Heffington turns director and actor - and choreographer and dancer too – in this short film for Fleet Foxes.

Heffington puts himself in a position of turmoil within a scenario of liberal middle-class privilege. He is already love-lorn - rejected by the man he loves - when he gets another hammer blow at his own cool and chic dinner party. Realism fades, and then comes the catharsis.

“It was the pure honesty of the music and Robin Pecknold’s voice that originally drew me to direct/choreograph If You Need To, Keep Time on Me," Heffington has said in a statement. "Heartbreak being one of the most honest and visceral symptoms of love, I wanted to paint a realistic picture of humanity and share a story that so many of us have encountered.

"Using dance as an offering has defined my adult life and I believe in its healing power – for both the dancer and the witness. I wanted to capture this in the film, whether it is seen as surreal or organic.”
