Tom Chaplin 'See It So Clear' by Daniel Broadley

Tom Chaplin 'See It So Clear' by Daniel Broadley

Daniel Broadley's video for Tom Chaplin is a nostalgic and transformative performance clip.

The former Keane frontman has battled with drug addiction, and seems to have come out the other side. This video, through his performance as he sits in a shadowy living room, attempts to depict that rise and fall and rise again. Mixing archive footage, live footage and some narrative recreation - the clip slowly changes moods from dreamlike and morose to more lucid and hopeful.

From the director

Daniel Broadley:

"When I first listened to See It So Clear it was the opening few seconds of the song that sparked my idea for the video. The dreamlike melody gently faded in, stuttering for a moment like a flicker in a memory. This evoked such a strong sense of nostalgia, a theme I wanted to explore further in a visual sense. I loved the idea of creating a window into Tom's past and displaying a mixture of archive footage of Tom as a child, innocent and untainted by the hardships of life to come; re-enacted footage in Hastings where he grew up, showing the uncertainties of adolescents; and live footage to represent where he is now in his life, positive and reformed. I also wanted to create a clear ark within the video, showing Tom shrouded in darkness and uncertainty at the beginning before gradually becoming lighter and more positive towards the end. Finally, I wanted to nod to each of Toms previous music videos from this album campaign by subtly adding in references from each of them."
