Obsessively recording life's experiences on our phones has become utterly commonplace. There couldn't be a downside, could there?

Directing duo The Rig Out's video for Knox Brown's Reignite follows a budding romance through the prism of the smartphone upon with the leading man's compulsively records every moment - including the couple's romantic trip to Rymans. Perhaps not surprisingly, it turns out the images on his phone last longer than the relationship itself.

From the director

THE RIG OUT:

"The film was shot entirely on iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus, with just a few add-ons. We started by experimenting with different options for lenses, such as various clip-on ones that are available, and it quickly became clear that the Beastgrip mount adapter combined with ‘vintage’ glass lenses was the way to go to get the look we wanted. Nikkor lenses with manual aperture rigged to the Beastgrip give the amazing quality footage you can see throughout the film.

"Shooting on the iPhone was a dream – without the sheer size and weight of a traditional film camera kit, we were hugely mobile and it was perfect for getting the on-the-move shots that are integral to this story. Rigging the iPhone to a Movi gave us smooth movement, and even with this extra bit of kit, we were able to run and gun it around Peckham to get whatever shots we needed, with no hassle.

"Everything in the ‘real life’ section of the video was shot using the FiLMiC Pro Camera Kit app, as it allows you to manually control all settings before a shot, as well as letting you select what resolution you shoot in, and the frames per second. It also has a setting for depth of field adapters, and flips the image back the right way. We also used Boomerang to capture some of the ‘flashback’ content, and of course the Instagram app."
