Die! Die! Die! '(I Love How You) Listen To The Radio' by Dylan Pharazyn

Luke Bather - 9th Aug 2016

Cult New Zealand band Die! Die! Die! have continued their collaboration with film-maker and artist Dylan Pharazyn to create the video for their new release (I Love How You) Listen To The Radio.

The video is a surreal portrayal of loss and regret, says director Pharazyn, and he's certainly right. Twins spitting pink liquid, the fury of a man throwing flour from the back of his van, bodies of water... oh, and an actual breakup.

It's all shot in gorgeous, crisp slow motion with incredible colours and a deft use of natural light. It certainly feels like it wouldn't be out of place as an istallation piece in a gallery. Hypnotic stuff.

DYLAN PHARAZYN:

"I wanted to evoke the moment a relationship breaks. The song has a romantic quality to it, but there’s anger in there. That strange mix of emotions merged into the image of a man dreaming of someone lost, and lashing out at his own memories in anger at the past. The band are amazing to work with. Easily the coolest band in New Zealand for years. And their music always throws up the unexpected, tones snap off, tracks take surprising directions… it demands images with spark and contrast."
