Vancouver-based theatrical rock band Blanket Barricade are collaborating with Awkward Moment Productions for a four-video saga of engrossing short stories to accompany the release of the band's debut album Parade Bells - all directed by Marshall Axani. So far, half of the project has been revealed.
The first film for Stray Shadows, tells the story of the overwhelming desire to indulge in some cross?dressing - with a twist in the tale, where it becomes a celebration of the unusual ways love can manifest itself.
The second instalment of the series is the story of a pudding chef, who struggles to keep her shop open after a bad review from a food critic keeps clients away. Until a mysterious yellow, radioactive-looking liquid is delivered to her doorstep and turns her creations into something everybody is literally crazy about (including the aforementioned critic).
It is unclear what exactly the two videos have in common, apart from both being stories that try to teach a moral - love cannot be labelled, and deception brings unpleasant consequences. Maybe the third and fourth video will shed some light as to what the fil rouge of this saga really is.
But the strong storytelling element should come as no surprise considering Blanket Barricade's leading man - Wesley Krauss - has written film scores before and AMP have been dabbling in short and feature films for a while now. Valeria Fiordimare
