UK Music Video Awards 2017 - now open for entries!

The tenth UK Music Video Awards, dedicated to celebrating the best work in music videos from the UK and around the world, has launched today (June 21st).

The UK Music Video Awards 2017 is now accepting submissions via the UKMVA website - the start of a four month process that will lead to the biggest night of the year for music videos in the UK and beyond. The UK Music Video Awards' tenth annual ceremony will take place once again at legendary London venue The Roundhouse on Thursday October 26th.

With awards recognising innovation, creativity and technical excellence in music videos, there are over 30 separate categories that can be entered at this year's UKMVAs, including numerous Best Video awards, a range of Technical Achievement honours and Individual awards.

There are also a brand new award for Best Production Company, and also a dividing of the live music coverage award into two new prizes.

And to mark the landmark of reaching its tenth annual show, this UKMVAs' longstanding art direction team StudioThomson are collaborating with artist Sam Bailey to create an art campaign for the Awards inspired by a decade of award-winning music videos.

As before, the tenth UKMVAs includes honours for best British and International videos in the traditional music genres recognized by the MVAs - Pop, Dance, Urban, Rock/Indie and Alternative. In addition, there are five more awards designed to recognise exceptional videos made for budgets under £5,000 (or non-sterling equivalent), now known as Newcomer awards.

As in previous years, there is also a full range of technical achievement awards, for work in Animation, Cinematography, Choreography, Colour Grading, Editing, Production Design , Styling and VFX. The five categories for Individual Achievement over the course of the past year – for Best Director, Best New Director, Best Producer, Best Commissioner and Best Video Artist - all return once again.

The latest advances in interactivity and virtual reality will be recognised in the Best Interactive Video category. And there are now two awards to recognise the increased importance of filming live music, with different awards for shortform and longform productions - Best Live Session and Best Live Concert. They are joined by a third new award - Best Production Company.

Two further awards will be presented on the night, the Icon Award - recognising an individual's outstanding career in music videos - and Video of the Year.

Information, criteria and forms to enter a video or an individual to the UK Music Video Awards 2017 is also available at the website. The deadline for entries for these categories is midnight, Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 (BST).

Following the deadline, all entries in the best video, technical achievement and individual categories will be judged by MVA Jury Members – invited members of the UK music video industry – via the online voting platform on the website. Then the most popular choices in the first round of judging will go forward to judging panels where juries will meet to discuss the work and vote on the final shortlist.

Invitations will be sent to those selected as MVA Jury Members in the next few weeks. To apply to become a Jury Member, please send an email entitled ‘MVA Jury Membership’ to the MVAs team at info@ukmva.com.
