With a style embracing both cinematic values and the judicious use of visual effects, Helman's career has been on an upward trajectory since his debut music video, for Blu’s Doinnothin’ with influential producer Flying Lotus, which went on to be nominated at the UKMVAs in 2012. Since then he has collaborated with some of the most exciting artists and acts in music today, including Vince Staples, Joey Bada$$, Dillon Francis & Skrillex, James Vincent McMorrow, Glass Animals, Darkstar, Empress of, Shura, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
In his recent video for Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s Killing Me To Love You, Helman reflects an ethereal song with mesmerizing shots of a girl hovering as she walks along a desolate road. His work outside of the music world have earned recognition, including the short film A-Z of Lucky Blue Smith, commissioned by i-D Magazine. The highly stylized piece features the teen model phenomenon listing the unique details of his life with rapid-fire pacing.
Laura Jones, who was recently appointed executive producer of music videos at Partizan in Los Angeles, says: “We’re all delighted to have David join the Partizan roster. His work is brave in its simplicity, always beautifully shot and emotive. I’m excited to start my new chapter at Partizan with such an exceptional filmmaker.”
Helman adds that he is delighted to be joining the company. “Since the beginning, Partizan has been ingrained in music culture,” he remarks. “I’ve long looked up to iconic Partizan video directors like Michel Gondry so I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of that DNA.”
